Meet Sean McAlindin, one of the talented and dedicated staff in Yosemite. Originally from Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Sean grew up in Northwestern Connecticut at the bottom of Ratlum Mountain, a rustic old Berkshire Peak that inspired a life-long love affair with all things wild. A graduate of University of Colorado at Boulder, Sean spent time traveling and working variety of jobs from the town bus driver in Crested Butte, CO, to newspaper reporter in Espanola, New Mexico before settling on a career as a teacher and outdoor educator. Since returning to school at St. John’s University in Queens, New York, Sean has taught in Brooklyn and San Francisco Bay Area public schools, as well as outdoor institutions such as National Outdoor Leadership School and Second Nature Cascades in Bend, Oregon.
“I was attracted to the mission of ARC. I am looking forward to working with youth who are new to the wilderness and helping to expand these types opportunities to a broader base of people. A meaningful wilderness experience can be life-changing, not only to the participants but also the communities they return to.”
When he’s not rock climbing, skiing or exploring the mountains, Sean enjoys picking his banjo or guitar on the porch and taking the time to enjoy the good things in life. He believes family, honesty, trust and following your dreams, and hopes to help cultivate these values and more in the young people he will be working with and helping to support this summer.
